According to The Hollywood Reporter director Simon Fellows is to make a film of one of the most intriguing mysteries of the 20th Century: the unexplained deaths of nine hikers in 1959 at Dyatlov Pass in the Ural Mountains in Russia. Fellows is best known for his 2009 film Malice in Wonderland , a twisted modern take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
What’s so interesting about this story is that the victims all died under extremely bizarre circumstances in an area known for its UFO activity and steeped in ‘wild man’ and yeti legends. The victims’ bodies all had very high levels of radiation consistent with having been handling radioactive materials, and one hiker even had a missing tongue (just like US cattle mutilations).

Speaking in an interview in the Sunday Mercury Oliver Robins, who played Robbie Freeling in the 'Poltergeist' films, claims that he himself grew up in a haunted house. He told the paper how until the age of seven he lived in a New York townhouse built in the 1870s where he often heard strange footsteps and felt a “presence”.
Sadly, the actors who played his siblings in the film Heather O'Rourke (Carrie Anne Freeling) and Dominique Dunne (Dana Freeling) have both died. Dunne was murdered by her abusive partner shortly after filming and O'Rourke died in 1988. Since their deaths there have been numerous rumours over the years that the horror franchise is cursed. Other victims of the curse are said to include Poltergeist II stars Julian Beck and Will Sampson.
