Every week it seems, there's a new ghost hunting reality TV show. The public loves them. And now, everyone wants to be a ghost hunter, because let's face it, para-reality shows make it look so effortless. Ghost hunting seems harmless and fun, but if you're not physically, mentally and spiritually prepared, you  could get really hurt...or worse. We've compiled a list of 5 MUST-READ articles that every amateur ghost hunter and paranormal researcher should read before going out on their next investigation. It may just save your life.

I remember a conversation I had with {ijseo_redirect id=7} in July 1993 very vividly. I was interviewing her for a 'zine I had just launched called Mysterious Realms (later, just "Realms"). Lorraine & I spoke for at least 2 hours about the paranormal that day (still trying to find the audio of that convo to post here on weirld.com), and one thing I will never forget she said about ghost hunting was this, "these [evil] spirits are a lot like dogs..they sense when someone is scared and unprotected, and then they attack." I fear that a lot of amateur paranormal investigators don't really take into account just how dangerous the paranormal is. I have been fascinated with it my entire life..but I will leave the ghost hunting to my partner. The last thing I need is to wake up and see a dead person at the foot of my bed, and that's just exactly what happens to a lot of investigators after coming home from a ghost hunt; they bring back uninvited guests.

So, here are 5 MUST-READ articles about ghost hunting that every amateur ghost hunter or paranormal investigator needs to read in order to protect themselves.

  1. {ijseo_redirect id=2}: The author discusses some of the physical symptoms that a ghost hunter may experience when under attack from a negative spirit. Scary stuff!
  2. {ijseo_redirect id=3}: From the legend himself, Ed Warren. In this article, Ed reveals a step-by-step process that every investigator should go through to spiritually protect themselves BEFORE going on a paranormal investigation.
  3. {ijseo_redirect id=4}: Very practical, well-thought out multi-page guide to the 'hazards' of ghost hunting. Includes 1 page dedicated to "Organizational Hazards of Ghost Hunting" and 1 full page dedicated to "Personal Hazrds of Ghost Hunting." Besides being spiritually draining, many people don't realize just how financially draining amtateur investigating can be. Consider this from their Guide: "Money Drain - Ghost hunting can get expensive as hell, and if you are like a lot of people, you may be under or unemployed and just trying to scrape by. Justifying a drive of 40 miles out to a cemetery to burn up Digital 8 tapes when you need to get up in the morning and earn money for food can be tough to do and I'm not saying you should. Watch your money and don't go hog wild on equipment until you prove that you can and will use it."
  4. {ijseo_redirect id=5}: The author also discusses the financial drains of investigating the paranormal.
  5. {ijseo_redirect id=6}: This site goes above and beyond in teaching newbies in the field what they need to know about the dangers awaiting them. It features in-depth articles, video interviews, roundtable discussions with experts such as Chip Coffey, John Zaffis (the nephew of Ed & Lorraine Warren),  Mark and Debbie Constantino, Amy Bruni, Chris Flemming and more. Particularly frightening are the accounts of spiritual oppression, depression and possession. Yikes, this site will scare the hell out of you!

In closing, I'd like to leave you with the immortal words of Ed Warren (R.I.P.), "The person who makes statement’s such as 'I’m not afraid of ghosts', had better think twice about encountering one.  Knowledge is a weapon but remember- fools rush in where wise men fear to tread. Don’t be a fool. "

Be safe.
